NorthStar Entertainment’s Sheryl Northrop has worked in the music and media industries for more than two decades, spending time at both major and independent record labels and, for the last 15 years, as head of her own entertainment PR firm.
During her career, Northrop has worked in both print publishing and PR. She has represented entertainers, recording artists in many genres including rock, pop, blues, country, Americana, jazz, children’s recordings and other entertainment entities including books, theatricals, events and corporate clients. She worked in the media departments at I.R.S. Records, RCA Records and All American Music Group prior to starting her first PR company in 1997. Northrop launched NorthStar Entertainment in 2005.
Northrop holds a degree in journalism from California State University, Northridge and is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS). She co-taught the UCLA Extension course Publicity for the Music Industry for several years. She is a featured interview in the book Getting Signed: An Insider’s Guide to the Record Industry, and is regularly called upon to lecture or participate in panel discussions about entertainment PR in both industry and academic forums. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Association of Independent Music Publishers.
